Translate a YouTube video you own or are authorised to use

Use YouTube’s own captions when they meet your need. VTI source-link imports require an available authorised integration; uploading a file you own is the closed-test path. Translation is not enabled in this test.

YouTube's own caption tools, and VTI's workflow

YouTube's own captions and auto-translation may suit you when they cover your video's language pair and you are happy with the caption track.

For a completed transcript, VTI offers timestamped search and original-language SRT/VTT export. Link access, translation and speaker labels depend on configured providers; none is guaranteed by a public YouTube URL.

How to translate a YouTube video

Check the available source and processing path first:

Authorization, not extraction

VTI asks you to confirm you are authorised to use the media before it processes a link. It does not bypass platform protections, and it does not promise to extract media that is not accessible to you.

If a video's captions are not obtainable through the access you have, VTI tells you rather than inventing a transcript.

Supported languages

The product contract includes these language codes; actual recognition and translation availability depend on the configured provider:

Rights and limitations

VTI works on media you own or are authorised to use. It does not bypass platform protections and does not extract media you are not entitled to.

Automatic transcription and translation can contain errors. Review the output before publishing. Quality varies with audio clarity, accent, overlapping speech and subject-specific terminology.

Questions

Do I need to own the YouTube video?

You need to be authorised to use it. VTI asks you to confirm this before it processes a link, and it does not bypass platform protections.

Can VTI translate any YouTube video?

Only where the media is accessible through the access you have and you are authorised to use it. When a caption source cannot be obtained, VTI reports that instead of inventing a transcript.

Which languages are supported?

The contract includes English, Portuguese, Spanish, German, French and Russian. Availability depends on the active provider and language pair; translation is not enabled in the closed test.
